We've had this strong, warm colour before in 250 thread count percale and it was always very popular.

"The best of both worlds"

Percale is traditionally a "crisp" feeling fabric, made from a 30's yarn and noted for its durability. 10 years ago it was the fabric of choice, largely because the alternative, sateen, was renowned for its tendency to pill and have poor durability. While the tendency to pill has been largely overcome, sateen can never be as durable as percale because of the method of construction whereby the length-wise yarn, or warp, is not picked up every time by the cross-wise yarn, or weft, resulting in a smoother, softer feeling than the one-on-one percale.

The 400TC percale we have developed in conjunction with Gogreen Textiles uses a superior, finer 60's yarn, delivering a softer feel with some sheen and almost the same durability as the traditional 250TC percale. In other words it delivers the best of both worlds.

We feel this is the fabric of the future and have on the drawing boards more colours and designs so that we can offer you the complete package in this fabric option. We will continue to offer colour ranges in 400TC and 700TC sateen, each of which has its own merits.

While developing this range, we were approached by a design student wishing to do her internship with us. The result was the beautiful floral print you see on our quilt cover sets. "Blessed Earth provided me with a fantastic opportunity to internship with them during 2015, which has encouraged me to pursue career pathways that I wouldn't have thought imaginable before. During my time there I was presented the task of designing a print for the company that would be suitable for all ages, not gender specific and most importantly captures the essence of the brand. Through looking towards the beautiful Australian flora that surrounds us everyday I found inspiration in Eucalyptus trees. I feel as though this relates well to Blessed Earth as they are about harmony between people and the planet and hopefully inspires customers to appreciate the wonderful Australian environment that we too often take for granted. Thankyou to Janine and Rai at Blessed Earth for seeing potential in me and my artwork." Brenna Megyeri

The colours are White; Natural; Skye; Olive and Charcoal and now Husk... The combinations are exquisite, especially with the eucalyptus print on the quilt cover sets.

The colours are designed to allow you to mix and match the sheet sets with the printed quilt cover sets to provide many different "looks" in your bedroom.

All Blessed Earth sheet sets comprise of a flat and fitted sheet and one pillow case for sizes Bassinet – King Single, two pillow cases for sizes Double – King. Super king sets include king size pillowcases.

Sustainability??? The cotton it is made from is grown in a sustainable community of 300 families near Indore in Central India. Cows are raised for dairy products and their manure is used to generate bio-gas for cooking and lighting before going into the compost which uses Bio-Dynamic preparations. The community relies on Monsoonal rains and utilizes the ancient practice of Agni-Hotra to further energise the growing area. Every part of the cotton crop is important. The twigs of the bush are used for lighting fires, the leaves go into the compost. Mechanical traps are set for the insects that predate on the crop. The cotton bolls are handpicked at their maturity up to 5 times a season. This is in stark contrast to the western practice of machine harvesting once a year.

Is it Certified Organic??? The cotton is spun in a mill devoted exclusively to Certified Organic Cotton and manufactured under Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) supervision in an ultra-modern weaving mill. Our factory nearby is also fully GOTS certified. Any dyes used are certified organic by GOTS.

Is it Fair Trade??? Our cotton workers are respected and well looked after. A special school has been set up exclusively for the benefit of their children. The Swayam Academy not only features a state of the art education facility but also teaches Yoga, Meditation and other extra-curricular activities that will enrich their lives. We are in the process of acquiring Fair Trade certification for our bed-linen.

Low Carbon Miles. All of the growing; processing and manufacturing takes place within a very tight radius. There has been no organic cotton grown in Australia for 10 years now and that is probably as it should be. In the absence of monsoonal rains, it takes a lot of maintenance effort and water to grow a cotton crop organically. The villagers in our community love their work and their lives in making the considerable effort that goes into the bed-linen you get to buy.

How do we know??? We know these things because we have been privileged to be there and share with them the richness they have to offer. Over the years they have become our personal friends.

A note to our valued customers: We have steadily improved the quality and finish of the bed-linen products we offer you, working on the little things that make a difference. The aim is to give you a product you are proud to have in your home, at an affordable price. So we double stitch the header stitch on your flat sheets and attach the flanges of quilt covers and pillowcases so that we can mitre the corners for a superior finish. The 700 thread count range features piping on the flat sheet header and the pillowcases

These are the things you won't know about until you fit the product you buy elsewhere to your bed. We suggest you ask some questions before purchasing, ask about certification too. There are now dozens of businesses selling so-called "organic" or even "certified organic" bed-linen without a shred of proof. Most of it comes from China and is of questionable origin. If you expect more from the businesses selling questionable products, by letting them know they need to substantiate their claims - and by telling your friends if they refuse - then we will all be moving towards a marketplace of greater integrity.
