Child labour in the carpet industry

Posted on 9th Apr 2016 @ 5:26 PM

All of Blessed Earth's rugas and carpets are certified by GOODWEAVE.

We recently received this communication from Nina Smith, the founder of GOODWEAVE.

Dear ......., I wanted to be sure you heard the news. Last week, Schwab Foundation announced its list of Social Entrepreneurs of the Year. I'm beyond proud to share that I made the list, GoodWeave International made the list, and you made the list.

Honorees are identified for their success in "correcting market failures with the tools of capitalism." Yes, those of us who founded the organization envisioned the tool. But you are the one putting it to work in the world. You are the one who made the decision to shop or to build your business with integrity. You are the one who donates generously so that we can show the world that children are not tools of capitalism.

We will be formally recognized at the 2016 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Tianjin, People's Republic of China later this summer.

To help us leverage this moment, I'd like to ask your help. Please take a few minutes right now to read and share this blog piece I was asked to pen for the occasion:

There are 168 million victims of child labour —and we're failing them.
